How to Prepare Your Car for Transport: A Simple Guide
Shipping a car might seem complicated, but with a little preparation, you can ensure a smooth and stress-free experience. At Desi Trucking LLC, we believe in keeping you informed every step of the way. Here’s a simple guide to help you get your vehicle ready for transport.
1. Clean Your Car, Inside and Out
Before your vehicle is picked up, give it a good wash. This isn’t just about making it look good; a clean car allows you to easily spot any existing scratches, dents, or dings. Take detailed photos or a video of your car from all angles, and be sure to document any pre-existing damage. This will serve as a valuable record. Also, remove all personal items from the interior, as personal belongings are not covered by our transport insurance. This includes electronics, keys, and documents.
2. Inspect Your Vehicle’s Condition
Do a quick check of your car’s mechanical health. Make sure the battery is charged, the tires are properly inflated, and there are no fluid leaks. While our trucks are equipped for professional transport, ensuring your car is in good running condition helps with the loading and unloading process. Be sure to address any minor issues beforehand.
3. Secure All Loose Parts
Any loose or custom parts on your vehicle should be secured or removed. This includes spoilers, antennae, and roof racks. If you have a classic or exotic car, take extra care to secure any detachable parts. For convertible cars, make sure the top is securely latched in place.
4. Provide a Set of Keys
Your driver will need a set of keys to load and unload your vehicle and to steer it during transport. It’s a good practice to provide a single, working key rather than your entire key ring. This reduces the risk of loss and keeps things simple.
5. Keep the Gas Tank Low
For safety reasons, and to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle, please ensure your gas tank is no more than a quarter full. This minimizes fire risk during transport. If the tank is more than a quarter full, your driver may ask you to remove some of the fuel.
